Tips on buying a bespoke engagement ring
Top ten ways to propose

    The Price

Generally, Sherry Jewellery feel it’s well worth researching diamonds a little, before you buy. This is because the price structure is quite variable. For instance, a 1ct Diamond which is slightly yellow and marked, might retail at a third less of the price of 1ct whiter, cleaner stone.
See our 4 Cs page. We believe it's worth researching; it will help you to decide what’s going to take priority, in your buying decision. The 4 Cs all play their part in the cost of each  diamond. If you have the opportunity to see a selection of un-set diamonds, that is the best way to buy.  That way, you can put each stone into context , in relation to  price and size.

   Reputable source

It might seem obvious, but buying from a reputable and traceable source is essential. You’d be amazed how many people buy whilst they're  on holiday! (not recommened). It’s so easy to come home and find your diamond doesn’t live up to its description you were advised it was. Or find that it is inferior your expectations.

Of course there’s also the subject of authenticity. Unless you are qualified in examining diamonds and you have a trusted source, you could be buying un-ethically mined, or even fake material. Sherry jewellery only buys from trusted, long term suppliers. All of our diamonds are ethically sourced and we abide by the Kimberley process. So you can be sure, when selecting stones from us, that you are buying reputable and genuine material.

 Trading up?

Over the years, many of our clients have traded up in size and quality, particularly in relation to engagement rings. Either by trading in, or as we like to say, ‘retiring’ their original stone, and using it in a new piece of jewellery, (typically a pendant) you can up-grade to an improved diamond.
Whatever you decide, we feel it should be a considered and measured decision.

Rarity and value

Tips and advice on buying an engagement ring

D
iamonds become increasingly rare when they are of a  higher clarity grading .   (see 'The price'  below)      Only about 20% of all diamonds mined have a clarity
rating high enough for the diamond to be considered appropriate for use as a gemstone; the other 80% are relegated to industrial use. Of that top 20%, a significant portion contains an inclusion or inclusions that are visible to the naked eye upon close inspection.
Those that do not have a visible inclusion are known as "eye-clean" and are preferred by most buyers, although visible inclusions can sometimes be hidden under the setting, in a piece of jewellery. The most expensive diamonds fall within the VS and SI grades with FL, IF, and even VVS stones commanding significant premiums.

..'Sherry Jewellery was recommended to me and I have to say it was the best recommendation ever. Buying an engagement ring is a nerve racking time, but doing it long distance where you don't get to see the ring until its complete, is rather scary. However, Sherry Jewellery were fantastic, Ruth guided me through the whole process, included me in every decision, sent me sketches of different options and guided me to making the right choice. The look on my, now fiancée's face was priceless when I proposed with the ring.  (pictured right) Platium three stone diamond set ring with diamond and pink sapphire shoulder setting detail
I would definitely recommend Sherry Jewellery to anyone who wants a custom designed ring that is that extra bit special'

           No mistakes diamond...?

Take a look at our ‘no mistakes’ way of buying a diamond.

Buying a piece of diamond jewellery as a surprise can be a rather daunting prospect. In theory, it may seem like a great idea but in practice it can have some pit falls. After all, nobody can read minds. Here’s a brilliant way to avoid the risk of getting it wrong.
The Gift of a Diamond without risk of mistakes
First of all, come and choose your diamond confidentially. We can show you a fantastic range of loose diamonds to compare shape, size and price.
Now the clever bit...
Present your diamond as a surprise and then disclose that you’ve arranged to take your partner to have a bespoke mount designed and made to their own taste. The whole process works really well and you’re guaranteed ‘no mistakes’.
